Passenger Cloud enables a range of different ticket types to be sold in myTrip.

The main passenger classes listed below can be used with all types of tickets. If required, restrictions can then also be applied.

Passenger classes

myTrip supports the following classes of passenger:

  • Adult
  • Student - for customers currently in higher education.
  • Under 25 - for customers under 25 years of age.
  • Under 19 - for customers under 19 years of age.
  • Under 16 - for customers under 16 years of age.

You can choose which ones you would like to make use of. For example, you may choose to sell Under 19 tickets but not Under 16 tickets as 15-year-olds can use either.

Tickets can also be used by groups of passengers.

Types of ticket

myTrip supports the following types of ticket:

  • Period pass in whole numbers of days: e.g. 1 day, 7 day, 30 day or 90 day.
  • Group: Multiple passengers travelling together.
  • 2x Adult: For two adults travelling together.
  • Family: 2x Adults & 3x Under 16s travelling together.
  • Carnets: Multiples of other tickets, e.g. 10x 1 day.
  • Single journey: 1 single journey period pass, valid for 30 mins from activation
  • Return journey: Carnet of 2 single journey period pass, each valid for 30 mins from activation. Not restricted to same-day use.

Ticket restrictions

myTrip supports the following kinds of ticket restrictions:

  • Flexible: use anytime, no restrictions
  • Fixed date: i.e. restricted to a specific date range, such as an academic term
  • Off-peak:
    • restricted to activation after 9:00am and before 12:00pm
    • restricted to activation after 9:30am and before 12:00pm
    • restricted to activation after 06:00pm and before end of service

myTrip doesn't support a hybrid of fixed and flexible, such as a day pass that can be activated during a term time.

Multi-operator tickets

If you would like to sell tickets that can be used on more than one operator’s services on myTrip please get in touch. We are really keen to facilitate this, but there are few things to make sure are in place before this will work well for myTrip users and your drivers.

Common examples

Some typical ticket examples are provided below:

  • A 1 Day Adult ticket combines the ‘Adult’ passenger class with a period pass of 1 day.
  • A 10 Journey Student ticket combines the ‘Student’ passenger class with a carnet of period passes that are each valid for 30 mins from activation. Any reasonable number of journeys can be sold in this way, it isn’t fixed to 10.
  • A 3 Day Family ticket combines the Adult and Under 16 passenger classes, with a period pass of 3 days. Ideal for a weekend family holiday.
  • A Winter Term ticket combines the ‘Student’ passenger class with a 92-day period pass, with a fixed date restriction to a specific date range, e.g. 1st Jan - 4th April.

Other useful information

  • All unactivated tickets are valid for 12 months from purchase. After that, they will automatically expire and be removed from the customer’s account. This includes any remaining tickets within a carnet.
  • 1 day tickets can either be:
  • valid for 24 hours from activation, or
  • valid until the end of service - We’ve set 04:30 as a universal end of service to provide consistent ticket behaviour to customers where different operators finish service at different times of the day.
  • All single journeys are valid for 30 minutes from activation. This is designed to provide an effective balance between a good user experience and potentially fraudulent use.
  • A family ticket is always for 2 Adults and 3 Under 16s. Having a consistent definition of ‘family’ throughout the app makes things simpler for myTrip users.
  • We don’t use the term ‘child’ in passenger classes, ticket titles or descriptions as it is potentially ambiguous making it difficult for a myTrip user to know which ticket is right for them.
